Carve Works with Bobby Izzard to Create Viral BSL Videos


Carve has been very proud to work with Bobby Izzard to create a series of British sign language videos. 

The videos have already seen a tremendous amount of attention online and in the press. Speaking to the Romford Recorder, 27-year-old Bobby explained why he wanted to make these videos in the first place: “There is a whole deaf community that often goes unseen in mainstream life which has a lot to do with people not knowing how to do sign language. 

“The importance of it is one thing but how handy it is as well - excuse the pun - and how it can enrich your life and those around you are other great reasons to start learning.” 

Bobby first noticed the problem when he was working as a floor manager at the Shepherd and Dog in Harold Wood last year.

“There was a group of deaf people who regularly came in and a few of us thought we’d start to make a bit of effort and learn how to say basic things like “please”, “thank you”, “would you like any water?” and it just went from there. 

“I realised how few people know British Sign Language and wanted to encourage more to learn. 

“I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination so that’s why in the videos, you see me being taught level 1 and a bit of level 2 BSL (British Sign Language). 

“The videos are there to get more people interested in learning it, rather than teaching you everything you need to know. 

“I am really proud of how it’s gone so far and will carry on promoting it as much as possible.”

Facebook Bans Cryptocurrency Ads in Crackdown on “Deceptive Promotional Pieces”

More bad news for cryptocurrencies as Facebook announces a ban on advertising for “binary options, initial coin offerings and cryptocurrency,” reports CNBC.

The decision is part of Facebook’s efforts to limit advertising for financial products and services “that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices.”

This followed a 12 percent drop in Bitcoin on CoinDesk to $9,810 as it appears the cryptocurrency bubble is starting to burst.

Cryptocurrency experts are not too worried, however. “Because of the growth of the industry last year, there are some cracks in the industry as well that are being quickly ironed out,” said Joe DiPasquale, founder and CEO of BitBull Capital.

DiPasquale’s hedge-fund managers “are pretty encouraged now for the defining of a new bottom for bitcoin around $10,000. It’s a support level that can be moved up from. The other things are growing pains for the industry.”

Snapchat may be on the way out, but it’s legacy as a major social media disrupter has

staying power. Nearly every social media platform has incorporated the app’s “stories”

function – short clips that only last seconds, then are gone forever. In fact, these functions

are becoming more popular than actual posts.


According to Techcrunch, Instagram stories have 250 million users every day. That means

more than 250 million people are either viewing or watching Instagram stories, every single

day. And that’s just Instagram.

In contrast snapchat only had 160 million daily users at its peak.

The stories function contradicts most of what we’ve always been taught about social media:

that everything on the internet is written in ink – it’s permanent and there’s nothing you can

do about it. With stories, a brand can post its content to a huge audience, make its impact

(succinctly), then watch it disappear after a 24-hour period. This impermanence prevents

outdated posts lingering on your profile.

The stories function has also had the effect of pushing social media content into one of two

categories: that which is worthy of permanence on your feed, and that which should only be

glimpsed for a few seconds on your stories. That’s not to say one form of content is of lesser

quality than the other, just that each serves a different purpose.

Content for stories is the perfect chance to be creative, a little edgy and different. Stories

can be fun and highly interactive, they can be made on the fly, they can be scheduled to

appear at just the right moment. All that matters are that they are attention grapping and

memorable, but the stakes are significantly lower than that of permanent posts.

How an Algorithm Could Lead to A More Customised Video Advertising Experience

Here’s a high concept for you: could a data algorithm eventually lead to the obsolescence of

Recent leaps forward in data technology could make this a reality. Picture the current

method of video production for a social media distributed ad: client and video producers

meet, they corner the key message of the product and the broad audience they want to

While this type of content creation is still in its infancy, many industry insiders predict we’ll

be utilising it as soon as 2020. In world crammed with noise and distraction, creating an

advert that captures the attention of a viewer is an increasingly difficult task – this

technology could be an incredibly exciting way to do that.
